McGregor Metalworking Announces Wage Increases

May 9, 2018 by Bob Bingenheimer

Springfield, OH – The McGregor Metalworking Companies recently announced an immediate increase in hourly wages for its entry-level and mid-level hourly associates. These new hourly rates affect all McGregor manufacturing plants in Springfield including Morgal Machine Tool Company, Rose City Manufacturing, Inc., Ohio Stamping and Machine and Carmichael Machine Corporation.

The increase is a sliding scale up to $16 per hour. The previous entry level wage of $11 per hour increased to $13 per hour, while $14 per hour associates are now at $15 per hour. McGregor anticipates this adjustment will affect more than 100 current full-time associates plus all of its temporary workers. “Despite the $400,000 impact to our bottom line, we view this increase as an investment in our associates, our customers and our operations,” commented Tom Wright, President of McGregor Metalworking. “We are focused on identifying solutions to our workforce shortage and this is a bold commitment to that end,” he added.

“Attracting talent necessitated this move,” said Kara Williams, Director of Human Resources at McGregor. “Our hope is to encourage entry level associates to join McGregor and teach them a skill with the ultimate goal of achieving a higher hourly wage range at $25 per hour plus,” she continued.

The McGregor Metalworking Companies are currently taking applications for a variety of salaried and hourly positions open across all of its four Springfield manufacturing locations.

McGregor Metalworking Announces Sale of SC Metal Products Facility

May 15, 2017 by Bob Bingenheimer

Springfield, OH – The McGregor Metalworking Companies announced today that it has completed an asset sale of its SC Metal Products (SCMP) division in Aiken, SC, to Batesville Tool and Die, Inc. (Batesville.) The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are pleased to sell our SC Metal Products business to Batesville, who has stated an interest to grow the business, retain its dedicated workforce and maintain a steady supply of products to its remaining customers,” said Dan McGregor, chairman of the board. “Another beneficiary of this transaction will be our operations in Springfield, Ohio where a significant portion of work has been relocated, further cementing our allegiance and commitment to our hometown,” he added.

McGregor Metalworking Expands Welding Capability

August 7, 2015 by Web Admin

Springfield, OH – The McGregor Metalworking Companies are building on their already expansive welding capability with the purchase of 2 new robotic weld cells. This capital investment of more than $325,000 is a direct result of expanding opportunities to supply Honda of America with additional welded components.

“The award of 5 new, high volume production assemblies from Honda necessitated we invest in added weld capacity,” commented Jeff Hill, Corporate Weld Engineer at The McGregor Metalworking Companies. “What’s more is these state of the art weld cells will boost our throughput by more than 50% compared to the existing equipment in our arsenal,” he continued.

Originally, McGregor intended to procure 1 piece of equipment, but expanded the investment to 2 after Honda awarded a sixth part to the company. The first welder was delivered this week and the second one comes in November. In total, these welders will produce nearly 2 million pieces annually for Honda. “Honda has shown significant trust in McGregor Metalworking by awarding us this new business and it has been our pleasure to partner with them on the project,” said Jim Baldwin, Vice President of Sales for McGregor. “It is not unrealistic to think we could be adding at least 2 additional welders like these within the next 12 months,” he added.

All of this comes on the heels of McGregor’s selection as a 2015 recipient of Honda’s “Challenging Spirit Award” which is given “to suppliers in recognition of support and performance exceeding expectations, usually in response to a unique or extraordinary situation.” Last October, working 7 days a week for a period of more than 60 days the McGregor team produced components for Honda avoiding a costly assembly line stoppage after another supplier encountered difficulty. Since then, the relationship between the 2 companies has flourished and the Honda segment of McGregor’s business has more than doubled.
